Rays of hope in economic stress
Posted Tuesday, August 19, at 3:54 PM

Staycation. As the summer draws to close, "staycation" has been the buzzword of the season. While gas prices remain high and houses foreclose, our checkbooks stay close to our side. And instead of the anticipated extravagant summer getaways, people stayed close to home and saved money...

Hitting the bull's eye.
Posted Friday, August 8, at 4:22 PM

Recently I purchased the infamous Nintendo Wii. The game play is different than any other system made and the social climate it creates makes it the hottest selling console available. One thing my wife and I love playing is a dart game. Frustratingly we try to use the Wii remote to throw our darts as close as possible to the bull's eye. Then after five sets of darts, one of us gets to gloat about being the closest to the bull's eye...

Advertising in Adversity

I know your predisposition while reading this: in the end all he really wants is my money. I'll have to admit, I would appreciate your business, but honestly my larger goal is to help you survive these difficult times. I've never managed a business (or at least have not been officially paid for it), but I have worked for several small businesses and know one thing without a doubt: if you want to succeed, people have to know you're there. ...

Financial Help for Advertising
Posted Monday, July 14, at 3:13 PM

In today's business world, there's at least one fact dominating the market: money's tight. When I was younger I applied as an account manager for a local rent-to-own store. My job was to ensure that people paid their bills on time and hopefully in full. The owner said to me, "Some people only have a little money and it has to spread out. We want to ensure that we're covered in that spread."...

Repetition, Repetition, Repetition
Posted Thursday, May 15, at 4:22 PM

Do you ever wonder why such big corporations like Coke, Wal-Mart and Ford spend so much money on advertising even though they are well-known businesses that accrue vast sums of money per year? Because they understand the value of repetition. Keeping their company's name and products fresh in people's minds elevates the chances for more consumers to check out their business...
