Chaos in Schools
Posted Wednesday, November 5, at 9:05 PM
In the Journalism world there are several things that you try your best to avoid: religion and politics are the main ones. Well, I'm going to vent a little here and write about politics. However, the wonderful thing about blogs is they are electronic and can be erased as simple as pressing the "delete" key. So, if, and I sincerely hope this doesn't happen, only observing the possibility that I may offend people or cause an uproar, I can delete this blog. Before I start, let me make clear that as Americans we have the right to voice our opinions and respect one another's. I hope you respect mine and no offense intended.

Now, with that in mind. I know, you're thinking, "No, Dustin, don't do this!" Trust me, I just said that as a precaution. It won't be bad.

As we all know by now, we have a new president resulting from America's most controversial election in America's history, President Barak Obama.

This has affected our schools dramatically. I went to school today surrounded by racist comments and even on the internet, racial offenses were made. Some said, "We're going to be in top class now and you're in bottom class." Or the most absurd, "All white people report to the nearest cotton field for orientation."

Ask the majority (key word majority) of the young people that were advocates for Obama why they wanted him and you will get "Because he's black, duh!" or my personal favorite, "because he is a good speaker."

I'm sad to say, that it's not only from our fellow students that we have a newfound racism, but also a teacher is making racial slanders. The teachers are our role models and we look up to them. And we catch racism from them too?

It is sad that this one man has created such chaos in schools and between friends, brothers, sisters, and fellow students and teachers. What has this nation become? What happened to "one nation under God?"

I will leave with this note: May God bless America and shed his grace on thee and mend the ever widening crack that will soon be the death of a nation.

I ask that if you do comment, please be respectful and respect one another's opinions. Thank you and God bless America!

Wall Reflections
Posted Wednesday, October 8, at 6:27 PM

The Wall has now been out of town for a week. I kind of miss it. I was fortunate to be able to be absent from school to volunteer at The Wall last Thursday and Friday. I cannot begin to describe my feelings of gratitude toward my principal, Mrs. Thompson for allowing me to do so...

Today, September 20th, Puero Escondido: Mexican Grill opened for the first day of business. It is located on Railroad street where G G's used to be. I was helping out at the museum getting it ready for a big showcase during this coming week with The Wall. ...

A Forgotten Day in History
Posted Thursday, September 11, at 5:56 PM

Have we forgotten that dark day seven years ago? Have we forgotten already? Today, I went to school expecting to pledge allegiance to the flag or have a moment of silence in the victims of September 11th honor. I sat through first, second, third, fourth, and fifth period and still we had not even recognized it was the anniversaries of one of America's darkest days. I sat through sixth, seventh, and still no recognition...

A New School Year Blossoms
Posted Sunday, August 31, at 6:34 PM

The new school year has started. I'm now in the 11th grade. I think this is the most challenging grade yet! There's a lot of homework, and hardly any classes that all you have to do is show up. Here's my schedule for this year: 1st Period: Journalism- Ms. Kristie Lee...

Victory Overpowers
Posted Saturday, August 2, at 10:40 AM

As most people know already, "The Wall that Heals," a replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C will be coming to Marked Tree in the month of September. I went to one of the wall meetings and I was assigned a pen pal who is a Vietnam veteran. His name is SGT Paul D. Sicca. He has told be several stories about his life during and after the war...

What is to Come
Posted Thursday, July 24, at 11:40 PM

I was offered a blog on the Tri-City website, I have to say I was thrilled. I was surprised to know that my opinion on things was wanted. And just so you know, I tend to have very strong opinions, but I'll try to turn the flame down on some subjects...
