Wanda Douglas, 83, of Marked Tree, died Sunday, August 3, 2003 at her residence.

Douglas was employed with E. Ritter Implement Company for 36 years as a bookkeeper. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for 13 years and was a member of the Friendly Sunday school class. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's group who served the Lions and Rotary Clubs.

She was a founding member of the Soiree Bridge Club, a member of the Friends of the Library and the first female deputy sheriff in Randolph County. She was in the typing pool at Walnut Ridge Air Base during World War II. She was an avid Mark Martin NASCAR Racing fan and was widely traveled both in the U.S. and Europe.

Survivors include one son, Roy Douglas of Bryant and his wife Marian Douglas; one daughter, Linda Whitt of West Memphis and her husband V.J. Whitt; one sister, Wilma Beck of Wilder, Ky.; and two grandsons, Jeremy Whitt and his wife Lake Whitt, and Jamie Douglas.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 5 at First United Methodist Church, with Bob Hager and Rex Dickey officiating. Burial followed in the Marked Tree Cemetery. Arrangements are by Murphy Funeral Home of Marked Tree.

Visitation was held at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church music department, the Marked Tree Library or St. Bernard's Hospice.
