Born in Weona, he was an Army veteran and had lived in Trumann before moving to Memphis in 1967. He was an Army veteran and was retired from Fred's Dollar Store. He returned to Trumann in 1996 and was a member of Melton Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Presley Smith of the home; three sons, Paul Smith of Trumann and Gary Smith and Phillip Smith, both of Memphis; three sisters, Retha Oldman of Marked Tree and Readie Brooks and Geraldine Glidewell, both of Trumann; a brother, Cecil Smith of Trumann; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ester Thorne Smith.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, with Landon Hope, Nolan Glover and Ronnie Benson officiating. A private burial was held in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.
Pallbearers were Dennis Penter, Jackie Teague, Orville Martin, Donald Presley, Buford Presley and George Presley.
Visitation was held at the funeral home.
