John was an avid golfer, and spent countless hours honing his skills with Jack and the boys. He would pass on endless stories of adventure and misadventure which remained remarkably free of embellishment even after much repetition.
John served his country with courage and honor during the second World War, as a proud member of the 502nd parachute Regiment of the famous 101st Airborne Division, serving three Behind the Lines jumps in Central Europe.
Brother Rhodes was a member of the O.K. Houck Lodge #707 F&AM, Memphis, TN and E1 Kalah Shrine of Salt Lake City. He devoted countless hours of faithful service to the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
John is survived by his wife, LaVada Rhodes; his children,Clyde (Michelle), Barbara (Jon) Jolley, Rhody (Cindy), Rene (Joey) Naso and Ronny Becker; one brother, Clyde; 18 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Frankie; 2 brothers, Paul and Harold; granddaughter, Jennifer.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19 at the Christ United Methodist Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in John's name to the Shriner's Hospital for Children Intermountain Unit at Virginia & Fairfax, SLC, UT 84103.
