A World War II Navy veteran, Johnson was a New York businessman, an instructor at New York University and the founder of Stonybrook Girls School in New York. Johnson served as a missionary for many years in Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Canada and at Indian reservations in New Mexico and Oklahoma, before becoming the pastor of Upper Room Church in Tyronza, where he retired in 1985.
Survivors include his son, Dr. Dan Johnson of Jonesboro; one daughter, Beckie Goetzman of Overland Park, Kan.; one sister, Muriel Sandbo of Boone, NC and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Goetzman of Overland Park, Kan., Rachel Goetzman of Overland Park, Kan., Gabriel Goetzman of Overland Park, Kan. and Hannah Goetzman of Overland Park, Kan. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel in Jonesboro, with Mike Johnson officiating.
