LaVada Fern Hendon Becker Rhodes died on April 14, 2005. She was the wife of the late John Rhodes of Salt Lake City and former wife of the late Fred Becker of Marked Tree. She is survived by her son, Ronald David Becker (Rhodes) of Cancun, Mexico; her step children, Clyde, Barbara, John and Rene of Salt Lake City; brother, John Hendon of Champaign, Il; and sister, Mary Brewer of Lepanto.

Born LaVada Fern Hendon in Black Rock to John & Alpha Hendon on December 20, 1929, she worked for years as a dental laboratory technician and opened her own dental lab in West Memphis. She also owned a craft and gift store in Marked Tree for a short period of time. She lived for several years in Waldorf, Maryland.

Throughout her life she always helped those less fortunate than her, giving of herself to those in need. From an early age she gave up opportunities so that others would succeed or be better off. As a young child, she quit school so that her siblings could finish their education. She devoted her life to her son and worked to ensure that he received the education and opportunity to succeed in life.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 18 at the Murray City Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah under the direction of Holbrook Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
