Born in Lepanto on March 21, 1928, Hill was the daughter of Mary Symantha and Oscar Weems of Lepanto. They preceded her in death.
After graduating from Lepanto High School, Hill attended Southwestern University in Memphis, Tenn. for one year and attended Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas for two years.
At Abilene Christian College she was a member of GATA, and she was elected one year as a campus beauty and another as a class favorite. She later attended Our Lady of the Lake College and Trinity University in San Antonio.
While a student at Abilene Christian College, Hill was married to Floyd Williams Hill, also a student at Abilene Christian College, on April 29, 1948. At the time of her death, they had been married for 57 years.
Hill worked as a school secretary and as a language arts teacher during her earlier years of marriage, and in later years she was a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was called "Honey" by all of her grandchildren.
Hill's greatest joys in life were being with her family and with her close friends in her church fellowship. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, and for 21 years she had been a faithful member of the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in San Antonio. After her mother became a widow and moved from Arkansas to Texas, Bettye devoted her time to caring for her mother, as she had also helped to care for her husband's aging parents.
Hill is survived by her husband, Dr. Floyd Hill; two sons: Dr. Don Hill and Dr. Tom Hill, all of San Antonio; one daughter-in-law: Bethany Hill of San Antonio; one sister, Nina Evelyn Seymour of Jensen Beach, Fla.; one brother, Thomas Luther Weems and his wife Georgia of Punta Gorda, Fla.; 5 granddaughters: Heather Cheatham of Keller, Texas and husband Derek and Robyn Hill, Kara Hill, Caitlin Hill and Samantha Hill, all of San Antonio; two brother-in-laws: T.C. Hill of Uvalde, Texas and his wife Mary and Jerry Hill and his wife Ann of Pleasanton Texas; and three great grandchildren: Brooks Hill, Halle Carolyne and Ellison Elizabeth Cheatham.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in San Antonio. Mr. John Harp officiated. Graveside Service was at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sabinal Cemetery in Sabinal, Texas, where generations of the Hill family are buried. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Medina Children's Home, HCR 16, Box 75, Medina, TX 78055-9615.
