Mary Janice Welch

Mary Janice Welch, 80, of Pocahontas died Thursday, March 9 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Harrisburg, she lived in Pocahontas for 12 years. She also lived in Marked tree for a number of years where she worked at Wilshire Division. She was of the Methodist belief.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Welch Taylor of Walnut Ridge; two brothers: Edmund Cleaves and John Cleaves, both of Jonesboro; three sisters: Emogene Valentine of Holly Springs, Miss., Wilma Volner of Highland, Ind. And Betty Smith of Trumann; three grandchildren: Lisa Dawn Courtney, Danny Hison Taylor Jr. and Cody Welch; and four great-grandchildren: William Taylor Courtney, Zackary Wade Taylor, Justin Robert Raylor and Sarah Janece Courtney.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gussie Leota Welch; one son, Donald Eugene Welch; her parents, Harry and Bessie Austin Cleaves; and two sisters, Ruby Cleaves and Jewell Clements.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 11 at the Magnolia Chapel of Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Winfred Bridges officiating. Burial followed in Willis Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Danny Taylor Sr., Danny Taylor Jr., Bill Courtney, Taylor Courtney, Zackary Taylor and John Cleaves.
