Hobbs dies in accident in NC

A tragic car accident on Saturday, March 18 claimed the life of Lepanto resident Marilyn Janet Hobbs. Hobbs, 44, was traveling to North Carolina with her sister, Phylis Bell, and her mother, Janet George, both of Marked Tree.

The accident occurred at 11:30 p.m. when Larry Cox, 16, hit the Hyundai SUV in which the women were traveling. According to other newspaper reports, Cox ran off the right shoulder of the road, over corrected and collided head on with the other vehicle.

All parties involved were transported to the hospital where Cox died from critical injuries. Hobbs died Monday, March 20.

George is currently being treated at the Med in Memphis. Bell was released with a broken wrist.

Born at Marked Tree, Hobbs was a member of the Lepanto Church of God and a loan processor at First Community Bank in Marked Tree. She was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Kirby.

Survivors include her husband Perry Dewayne Hobbs of Lepanto; two sons, Joshua Perry Hobbs of Manila and Caleb Aaron Hobbs of Lepanto; two sisters, Phylis Bell of Marked Tree and Dianne Morgan of Laurel Hill, N.C.; and her mother Janet George of Marked Tree.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 25 at Murphy Funeral Home with W.C. Blanton officiating.

Burial followed at Potter Memorial Cemetery in Lepanto.

Memorials may be made to the Lepanto Church of God.
