Gerald Davis Payne, 81, formerly of Payneway died Friday, June 2 at the V.A Medical Center Ft. Roots, North Little Rock. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 5 at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel in Marked Tree with Patrick Tucker officiating. Payne is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Vela Kelso Payne of Sherwood; two sons, Mike Payne of Sherwood and Jerry Payne of Birmingham, Alab.; one brother, Neal Payne, Sr. of Payneway and one sister, Elinor Le Vine of Alpine, Tex.; three grandchildren, Dr. Michael Payne, Jarrod Payne and Dr. Jason Payne and four great-grandchildren.

Payne was a farmer and a member of the Methodist Church. He graduated from Marked Tree High School in 1941. He was a WWII veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 32 months in the South Pacific and was with the Marine Corps that stormed the beach in Siapan.

Interment was held in the Marked Tree Cemetery with cousins as pallbearers.
