William Nathaniel Mayfield

William Nathaniel "Nathan" Mayfield, 79, of St. Louis, Mo. died Sunday, Oct. 15 at Missouri Veteran's Home.

Born at Delmar, Ala. to William H. and Margie (Harper) Mayfield, he was a resident of Lepanto from about 1938 through 1950.

Nathan was a member of Operating Engineers Local #513 for more than 50 years and a 42 year member of the Church of Christ in Arnold, Mo. He served our country actively in the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the National Guards.

He was the beloved husband of Katrena (Parker) Mayfield for 57 years; the loving father of Carl L. Wise, Kathy Edwards and William N. Mayfield Jr.; the dearest grandfather of Amanda Knoll, Ricky Wilson and Kharity Micah Edwards; the dear great grandfather of Cody, T.J., Olivia, and Lucas; the dear brother of Exel Willis, Inis May and Wayne Mayfield; the dear brother-in-law of Jerriel Parker, Wanda Tucker, Evelyn Garoutte, Bobbie Mayfield and Judi Mayfield; and the dearest uncle and friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Thurman, Lecil, Carroll, Jerry, Terry, Audie May and Willi Dean; his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Alice Parker and in-laws Cecil, H.R., Wesley, Peggy and Thelma.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 19 at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in St. Louis.

Pallbearers were Mike Edwards (son-in-law), Rick Wilson (grandson), Stephen Parker, Andrew Parker, Kelly Parker and Tim Redhage (nephews).
