Born in Marked Tree, he was retired from the military and was a retired carpenter, mechanic and farmer. He served in the U.S. Army and the Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the DAV and the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Armstrong, and his parents, Perry Armstrong and Bula Elliot Armsrtong.
Survivors include two sons: Rick Armstrong of Mt. Pleasant and Jim Hamrick of Mountain View; three daughters: Rebecca Hamrick of Fayetteville and Cynthia Hamrick and Vicky Brown, both of Mountain View; one brother, Perry Armstrong, Jr. of Alexander; three sisters: Shirley Chum of Dallas, Texas, Lena Johnson of Brunswick, Ga. and Dorothy Armstrong of Truckee, Calif; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville was in charge of arrangements.
