He was born Jan. 23, 1919 in Eupora, Miss. to the late Joe Rob and Verna Peeples Shelton. He was an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving in the 2nd Armored Division under General George S. Patton, past president of the Lion's Club and a member of the American Legion. He was a retired sales associate of Wal-Mart and a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Booneville.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 3 at McMillan Funeral Hope Chapel with Bro. Gary Glazier, Bro. C.D. Edge and Bro. Bobby Hankins officiating. Burial followed in Booneville Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Josie Shelton of Booneville; one son, James M. Shelton, Jr. of Tupelo, Miss; one step-daughter, Debra Allen of Brandon, Miss.; one ste-son, Donald Bishop of Booneville; one sister, Mable Guarr of Meridian, Miss.; one brother, Gayle Shelton of Frostproof, Fla.; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Garvin of Hammond, La.; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and special friends, James Thomas, Jane Johnson, Neal and Sara Johnson, Glenn and Carol Johnson and Angela and Jamie Cole.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of his childe, Helen Shelton; three brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers were Neal Johnson, Glenn Johnson, James Thomas Johnson, Johnny McKinney, Bill Hutson and Robert Hutson.
