James "J.E." Edward Conley, Jr., 80, of Luxora died June 7, 2008 at Great River Medical Center in Blytheville.

Born Feb. 13, 1928 in Little Rock, he was the former mayor and police chief of Luxora. He was retired from the Navy, a veteran and a member of the Gospel Temple in Luxora.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucinda Morris and James Conley Sr.; one sister, Flora Mae Vickers; and three brothers, Maxwell Butler, Harold Butler and Julian Butler.

Survivors include his wife, Ellora Thompson Conley of the home; one son, Michael Conley of Luxora; one sister, Maxine Butler of St. Louis, Mo.; and one granddaughter, Meagan Conley of Luxora.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at Gospel Temple in Luxora with Rev. Laurence Haley officiating. Burial will follow in Luxora Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola.
