Well I at least enjoyed it after we moved.
Sitting in the row behind us was a group of pre-teens. Two boys and two girls to be exact. As I executed my right to be nosey, I listened in on their conversation. It was a bit comical to hear their awkward flirting, but it soon turned to annoyance when they decided to move behind us.
Apparently the dimming lights and movie previews didn't give them a hint that it was time to shut up. Or at least use some "inside voices." No, these kids persisted in their awkward conversing to the point where Sam and I decided it was time to move.
It reminded of another time a few years ago. I don't recall the movie, but I do remember the massive crowd of girls thinking everyone around wanted to hear their business. There were actually a few people who came to them and told them to be quite, but they just looked at them and kept on talking like they didn't care.
Kids these days, huh?
It's funny how much we rant about the lack of respect youth have. In some ways I'll give way to the point many people make that respect degenerates as each new generation emerges, but by the same token, I think it's this endless circle.
I especially realize this from the perspective of a former youth pastor. You try to tell them not to make the same mistakes you or your associates made, but they never seem to listen until it's too late. Then as they progress down their trodden path of life they warn those younger than themselves and they don't listen either, thus repeating the cycle over and over.
I don't know how many times I've seen parents admonish their children or keep them under tight scrutiny. They seemingly do this out of fear that they will do something terrible. The parents are probably just remembering their own childhoods when they probably did the same or worse.
I find it humorous just how little we listen to advice during adolescence, yet find out in the end that mom was right. And mom probably learned the hard way and found out how much her mom was right.
It's like a twisted circle of life.
