She was born September 30, 1909, in Carbon Hill, Ala., the daughter of Robert C. White and Cena Phillips White. She married George Lee Simmons in 1938 and they enjoyed 39 years together before his death in 1977. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God in Harrisburg. She loved gardening and spending time in her flowerbeds.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, J.D. White and William C. White; two sisters, Cordelia White and Mary Simmons; two nephews, Clayton Simmons and Freddy Simmons; a niece, Mary Lawrence and a great niece, Lori Fountain.
She is survived by two nephews, John Simmons of Marked Tree, Douglas Simmons of Modesto, Calif. and a host of great and great-great nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were Friday, August 8, at the Weston Funeral Service Chapel in Harrisburg with Rev. Dwight Cunningham officiating. Interment followed in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.
