Edwards proves he's a deomcrat

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Well, John Edwards proved he's a real Democrat Friday when he admitted he had had an affair. When Republicans have a scandal it's always about money, and when Dempcrats do, it's always about sex.

In fact, you could say that Democrats are obsessed with sex the same way Republicans are obsessed with money. In both cases it's the only thing they think about, and no matter how much of it they have, they always want more. That's why so many Republicans are rich, but there will always be more Democrats.

Democrats have been linked to sex scandals as long as the party has existed. Thomas Jefferson slept with one of his slaves. Andrew Jackson's wife was married to two men at the same time. FDR was with his mistress when he died. John Kennedy, well what can you say? If sex were part of the Olympics, JFK would have retired with all of the gold medals and all of the world records.

While Democrats are busy out there making more little Democrats, Republicans have an almost puritanical sense about the whole subject. They missed all of those business failures of a few years ago because they were fascinated with Bill Clinton's sex life. Enron, Tyco, and Worldcom could collapse, so what? Banks could sell worthless mortgages, big deal. None of that mattered to the Republicans. They were too busy impeaching Bill Clinton because he did one of the "big nasties" with an intern.

And now John Edwards has come off the bench and joined the first team in the Democratic ranks. I know he was eager to prove he was a real Democrat, but, cheating on your wife after she ignores the fact that she is dying so you can run for President? That's about as low as it gets.

What worries me most about this is that the story was broken by the National Enquirer last October. The mainstream media and the public ignored it because of where it came from, but this time it turns out they were right.

My biggest fear about this election is that after Obama has been nominated and we're stuck with him, something like this will come out. The Enquirer already has printed similar stories about him. Can Democrats afford to ignore them?

You can be sure that the Republican Party and plenty of independent groups are working overtime to find something on Obama. You can be just as sure that they won't reveal it until after the convention.

Since I don't want to end on a low note, just remember this. No matter who becomes President in January, he will be a vast improvement over our first special education President.
