Singers to honor veterans coming to Marked Tree

Thursday, September 11, 2008
All church choirs and individuals who sing and would love to honor American war heroes are invited to participate in a special concert for those who will be coming to Marked Tree with the famed Wall of Healing at the end of September.

Several local choirs area already participating including the First United Methodist Church choir, under the direction of Carol Dabney; the Marked Tree High School Choir, under the direction of Vickie Stoddard; the Red Hatters of Lepanto, under the direction of Carolyn Parks; and the Noah's Art's children's sign choir, under the direction of Pat Steele and Bettye Bradford.

The choirs will come together to honor the nearly 200 veteran guest who have planned to attend the Wall of Healing Friday, Sept. 26, right after the MTHS Home coming parade which will begin at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and cheer the veterans on at the parade as they ride into town and into the parade.

These choirs will also be singing Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Lion's Club noon meeting at Marked Tree First United Methodist Church to bring awareness to the weekend events. They will also perform patriotic songs Saturday, Sept. 27 at this year's Delta Cottin' Pickin' Jubliee Festival.

This will be a memorable weekend for singers and children in the choir. Group or church choirs who would like to join are invited to come to practice at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 17 and Sept. 24 at the First United Methodist Church on Frisco in Marked Tree at 7pm. For more information, call coordinator Carol Dabney at 358-4141.
