Terrapin Derby favorites will be returning this year including helicopter rides and an old fashioned bean dinner sponsored by Steven's Square.
Residents are gathering friends from far and wide to come enjoy the festivities which are sponsored by the Lepanto Volunteer Fire Department.
The day will kick off at 8 a.m. with vendors and crafts lining the main street. There will be music on the main stage all day and the Painted House will be hosting tours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Carnival rides and games are also a popular attraction.
The Lepanto USA Museum will be open for tours and will be selling their "Stories of Old" history book. At 10 a.m. the Three Rivers Baptist Church will present a "Freedom Drama" on the main stage.
At 11 a.m. there will be a special Jimmy Hendrix Metal of Honor presentation followed by the crowing of the Terrapin Derby Queens at 11:30 a.m. on the main stage.
The Terrapin Derby originated in 1930 by the American Legion Post 26. Legionnaires would go to the banks of the Lepanto River and collect turtles to be raced down Main Street. Food booths, crafts and other activities would be held after the race.
The turtle race, which will be held at 4 p.m. in front of the main stage, is still a signature event of the derby. People come from miles around to witness the fascinating sight.
The parade, which be held at 2 p.m., is also enjoyed by children and adults alike. The parade features a variety of floats, elected officials, antique cars and the ever famous Terrapin Derby Queen.
Other entertainment opportunities will include seeing the Crowley's Ridge Cloggers from 3 -- 4 p.m. in front of the main stage. Music on the live stage will continue throughout the day and into the evening. A street dance featuring "Southern Pride" will kick off at 8 p.m.
