The Marked Tree golf team of Chris McClain, Jerry Phillips, Gunner Pitts and Taylor Wages qualified for the state class A golf tournament to take place at Horseshoe Bend beginning Monday, October 6.

Before the team could qualify for the state tournament, though, they had to work their way through both the conference and regional tournaments.

The team in fact won the 2A South Conference tournament against teams from Carlisle, Cross County, DesArc, Hazen, McCrory and Weiner with a combined total of 254.

Leading the team was Wages with a 74 to also take the prize as overall medalist. Following him was Phillips with 85, Pitts 95 and McClain with 108.

At the regional tournament at Stonelinks at Poyen, the team finished second with a 262. Conway St. Joseph won the tournament with a 215 while Benton Harmony Grove was third with a total of 267.
